Firewatch tracks fire-weather across Bordeaux and the surrounding Landes–Gironde maritime pine forest — the largest in Europe, and the scene of major summer fires. The Fire Weather Index is computed live from current and recent weather. Use it alongside — never instead of — Météo-France and 112.

Checking live conditions…

Risks appear only when live signals cross a medically-validated threshold — wildfire from the Fire Weather Index, heat illness from feels-like temperature, breathing problems from air quality. Guidance authored by wilderness-medicine physicians. See the API →

How this FWI is computed(computing…)

Canadian Forest Fire Weather Index System (Van Wagner 1987). Weather compounds into three fuel-moisture codes and two behavior indices, which combine into the headline FWI.

Sub-indices are produced by the live computation. The headline is showing the modeled placeholder because the live weather fetch was unavailable.

Guide

Fire-season precautions

General guidance for high fire dangerAuthored & verified by wilderness-medicine physicians
  • 1During high-to-extreme fire danger, avoid open flame, sparks, and hot works outdoors — especially midday.
  • 2Keep agricultural and forestry machinery off dry vegetation during peak heat; cured grass ignites off exhaust and blades.
  • 3Before entering wildland areas, know two exit routes and a muster point, and carry water.
  • 4Follow official weather warnings and any instructions from 112 and local authorities — they are the authoritative source.
  • 5Sensitive groups: limit outdoor exertion when heat or smoke is elevated.
For platforms

Everything on this page is one API call

Your weather signals in; a categorical risk score and physician-authored guidance out. Additive to what a weather platform already does — and grounded in medical authority it can't replicate.

Environmental data is everywhere. Outdoor health intelligence isn't.

GOES translates real-time environmental signals into medically validated risk intelligence, so your crews act before conditions become dangerous.
